Lecture Series Continues – Thursday, October 3rd with Doug Borchert’s Chautauqua performance
–  “Mark Twain and Dan DeQuille Hoaxers and Jokesters of the Territorial Enterprise

We are pleased to continue the 2019 Lecture Series with the Comstock Foundation for History and Culture!

Dinner starts at 5:00 p.m. and lecture starts at 7:00 p.m.

Description:  Doug will concentrate on Mark Twain’s most famous hoaxes, The Massacre Outside Carson City, The Petrified Man, and the Miscegenation Society and DeQuillie’s more famous “quaints,” The Rolling Stones of the Pahranagat, The Solar Armour. He will  also address the influence that Artemus Ward had on Mark Twain and the visit of Adah Mencken.

Bio: Doug Borchert is a native Nevadan ( Ely 1942) who has had a lifelong interest in the Comstock Lode. He developed a set of courses on the Comstock which he has given at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Cal State East Bay, San Francisco State, UC Davis, and the University of the Pacific.

Lecture starts at 7:00 p.m. and costs $5 per person.
