DESCRIPTION:Lecture Series Continues – Thursday\, August 1st with Mike Fischer’s “Dominique Laxalt\, An Iron Man that Started in a Wooden Wagon” \nWe are pleased to continue the 2019 Lecture Series with the Comstock Foundation for History and Culture! \nDinner starts at 5:00 p.m. and lecture starts at 7:00 p.m. \nThe legendary Laxalt family is well known in Nevada.  In many ways\, Dominique Laxalt is the prototypical Basque. Leaving his homeland to seek economic opportunity in America\, he struggled but through hard work and perseverance\, succeeded against long odds. There is no way that could have occurred without the aid of his wife\, Theresa. The program follows the ups and downs of of the Laxalt family’s journey and ends with the successes of the next Laxalt generation as Theresa and Dominique go to their final rewards! \nBio:  Mike Fischer\, a life long Nevadan and former Dental Surgeon\, Once retired he served as the “Director of the Nevada Department of Cultural Affairs” under Governor Gibbons and Governor Sandoval’s Cabinet until the department was formally disbanded. He is now an independent scholar whose interests include the history of Nevada\, cowboys\, ranching\, politics\, bootlegging\, gambling and crime. \nLecture starts at 7:00 p.m. and costs $5 per person. \nCome early and enjoy dinner before the lecture! DESCRIPTION:** Sorry\, this tour is sold out!  The next tour is on August 22nd.  Please see the web site calendar to sign up for this ghost tour ** \nThe Gold Hill Hotel (as seen on Ghost Adventures and proclaimed the 8th most haunted location in Nevada) is now offering Historical Ghost Tours.  This tour is on Thursday\, August 8th!  These tours benefit The Comstock Foundation for History and Culture.  Hosted by the Northern Nevada Ghost Hunters (NNGH)\, your evening will start with a gourmet dinner in the Crown Point restaurant (one of the best restaurants on the Comstock). \nAfter dinner\, NNGH will guide you back in time with tales of the history and the hauntings of the hotel and the surrounding area\, known as Slippery Gulch. Using ghost hunting tools and techniques\, you can try to make contact with the spirits still in residence at the hotel. Please note that you will be touring some of the actual haunted rooms in the hotel as well! \nBefore the tour or during the intermission\, quench your thirst and calm your nerves with a drink in the 150 year old bar\, as frequented by Mark Twain back in the day!  This is sure to be an evening to remember.
