DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to continue our 2018 Lecture Series with the Comstock Foundation for History and Culture! \nThursday\, October 4th lecture will be Cliff Jennings on:  “Mysteries of the Hale & Norcross Mine: Waste Trestles\, Bins & Dumps”\nA Story of Site Observations\, Model Making and Comstock-V&T History\n \nDinner starts at 5:00 p.m. and lecture starts at 7:00 p.m. \nLecture Description:\nIn its heyday\, the Comstock’s major mines were visually dominant and architecturally striking. But when one attempts to make a scale model of one\, questions emerge that drives one to research. Archival photos and drawings are crucial\, and site investigations gives clarity. But once in a while\, one ends up with a bigger stack of questions then at the start. \nThis is a story of one such mine\, and the attempt to research and model it: The Hale & Norcross\, ca. 1890. It is also a story of observations on the ground and from the air; over the Internet and via email. All will help in understanding the structure and making a model of them. And during the process\, a story will emerge of a mysterious little shed whose remains still reside on an man-made hilltop in Virginia City\, Nevada. \nLecturer Bio: \nCliff Jennings is a mechanical designer living in Maryland. Raised in California and about ten years ago\, his interest returned to Comstock mining and the V&T Railroad. His hobby has become his passion with a mix of model railroading\, V&T history and the research and modeling of Comtock mines in their prime. \nLecture starts at 7:00 p.m. and costs $5 per person. \nCome early and enjoy dinner before the lecture! DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to continue our 2018 Lecture Series with the Comstock Foundation for History and Culture! \nThursday\, October 18th lecture will be Larry Martin on:  Metal Detectors\, Visual Observation\, Buried Treasure and “Gold is where you find it\, or not”\n \nDinner starts at 5:00 p.m. and lecture starts at 7:00 p.m. \nThis fascinating lecture will discuss and demonstrate how to visually identify gold and silver on the surface of the ground and better yet how to find it with a metal detector. \nI think we all agree on one thing with regards to digging for gold and treasure – finding it quickly & regularly isn’t possible without the best gold detector. There’s no two-ways about it\, investing in a less than adequate device simply isn’t going to work and will likely end in nothing more than sheer frustration. \nLarry’s lecture and demonstration is to ease the burden for budding newbies and also the more experienced who are interested in improving their chances of finding gold. \nVarious metal detectors will be demonstrated at the lecture.  Bring your detectors to the lecture and let’s have some fun testing them out. \nBio: \nLarry Martin – Currently:  Director of Exploration and Chief Geologist Comstock Mining Inc\, Virginia City\, NV \nBorn and raised in northwest Kansas.  Graduated Colorado School of Mines:  BSc.
