SUMMARY:Lecture Series: Mike Collins – on the Crown Point Trestles
DESCRIPTION:Mike Collins continues the lecture series this Wednesday night (October 18th) at the Gold Hill Hotel.  Please note that the lecture is WEDNESDAY this week\, not THURSDAY! \nMike is the President of the V&T Railroad Historical Society.    \nThe Crown Point Trestle was a wood trestle built across the Crown Point Ravine (70′ x 40′)\, Crown Point Mine\, Union Street\, and American Flat lower Road. The timbers were cut from trees harvested in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. \nThe trestle was 351′ long and 85′ feet high\, and contained 184\,538 board feet of lumber\, and 19\,280 pounds of iron in bolts\, pins\, nuts\, and additional cables.  There was loss of life during its construction. \nThis exciting lecture will discuss all of these aspects of this historical structure as well as presenting historical pictures and drawings of the trestle.  This is one of the biggest technical artifacts of the Comstock era! \nThe Virginia & Truckee Railroad Historical Society is a non-profit established in 2009.  The mission of the V & T Railroad Historical Society is to encourage research and the publication of information concerning the railroad from its inception in 1868 to the last official run on May 31\, 1950. \nThis lecture will begin at 7 p.m. and costs $5.  If you would like\, we have a dinner consisting of spaghetti with meat sauce\, a green salad\, and garlic bread AND INCLUDES THE LECTURE\, all for only $11!  So come for dinner and the lecture and get it all for the low price of $11 total.  Please note that we have only 50 total seats for people to see the lecture so sign up early! \nIt will be an exciting evening!  See sign up form below: \n\n \n\n\n \n \n \n	\n\n\n\n Name:\n \n\n \n\n\n\n\n Email Address:\n \n\n \n\n\n\n\n Dinner and lecture or lecture only?\n \n\n Lecture only $5\n Dinner at 6 p.m. and lecture for only $11 \n\n\n\n\n How many in your party?

SUMMARY:Ghost Tour Tonight at Gold Hill Hotel - Bat's in the Belfry!
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy a wonderful dinner at the Crown Point restaurant at the Gold Hill Hotel at 7 p.m. and then take a ghostly ghost tour of the haunted rooms at the Gold Hill Hotel at 8 p.m.  $40 for both dinner and the tour!  Tours run by the pros at “Bat’s in the Belfry” ghost tours in Virginia City!  Please call 775-815-1050 to sign up for the dinner and tour. \nThis ghost tour features some of the most haunted rooms at the Gold Hill Hotel\, as featured twice in the “Ghost Hunters” TV program. \nHere are some reviews of some people that have been on the “Bat’s in the Belfry” ghost tours.  This is what people say about the tour: \nLots of fun tour guides interesting \nWe went to Virginia City over Halloween to look for ghosts.  Did both the ghost hunt and paranormal investigation. The crew was fun and knowledgeable. We visited several spots on the hunt and two locations on the investigation. I would say this is a must do even if you are a skeptic there is no judgment either way with this group. Since you are trying to locate and communicate with those who have passed little ones are not a good idea but adult adventure all the way. Thanks for the good time. \nFun & Interesting \nThis tour was quite fun & quite interesting\, so much so it seemed like it was over in a flash. \nDue to brutally cold weather\, complete with accompanying nasty winds\, we didn’t get to do much outside\, but that may have actually worked in our favor because in lieu of that we got to do a lot of work upstairs in the Silver Queen with a bonus of doing an extensive flashlight tour of the upper floors in the Washoe Club. \nThe tour folks provide a select # of electronic instruments for you to help look for electronic abnormalities so if you’re lucky enough to get one it’s really cool! They also had a K2 meter which they operated & it did go off a few times during our walking around.   Some tour patrons had their own electronic ghost detecting gear\, which the use of was fully supported by the tour folks. \nI highly recommend this tour for the price it was well worth the hour or so of our time. Would do it again (hopefully in the summer next time). \nThe ghost tour was fantastic. Parts of Virginia City that I never knew existed! \nWe hired Debbie and her crew for our annual Victorian Steampunk Ball in Virginia City. Our group was almost 50 people strong so we had two groups for the tour. The information and history was fantastic. Loved the fact that the tour participants get to carry EMF detectors. We even got to meet Cassandra the girl ghost. She set off our devices. Highly recommend this tour and our group seconds that opinion. Thank you so much Debbie. Don’t miss this one. \n

SUMMARY:Lectures Continue Tonight: Will Furman - Bodie and Virginia City: Capturing the Historic Old West in a New Way
DESCRIPTION:Will Furman continues the lecture series this Thursday night (October 12th) at the Gold Hill Hotel. \nWill is a photographer with a distinct eye for the serenity and magic of nature – and for echoes of the Old West.  He has pioneered what he describes as Inside-Out\, a single image technique that utilizes both the reflectivity and translucency of windows to create an image with multiple planes.  The result conjures a Bodie that was\, haunting and evocative.    “When we visit historic places\,” Will asks as he photographs\, “What did it feel like to live back then?   That feeling is what he tries to capture in each photograph. It allows the viewer to feel\, for a moment\, that they had returned to yesteryear.” \nAfter his presentation on Bodie\, Furman will talk about his new Inside-Out technique and show examples of it applied in Virginia City and other historic towns in the west. \nThere is no double exposure. No superimposition of two images\, just one press of the camera button.  The results draw the viewer into the image in a new way.  People who like ghost towns\, like this presentation.  It’s different.  The towns come alive because each person experiences each image differently. \nLast month Will Furman gave this presentation at the California State Library in Sacramento.  They have asked him to mount a photographic exhibition of Inside-Out images at the library. \nIf you want to see a new way to capture people’s interest in historic towns\, like Virginia City\, or any other historic town\, come to the Gold Hill Hotel on Thursday evening\, October 12th at 7:00 PM.  It will be an exciting evening!  See sign up form below: \nPlease note that we have only 50 total seats for people to see the lecture.  Due to the crazy interest in the lecture series\, and the fact that we are selling out each week\, we will have to closely monitor the sign ups for this lecture series. \nThere are 30 spots available for people attending dinner and the lecture.\nThere are 20 spots available for the lecture only.\nPriority goes to those who chose the dinner and the lecture.  \n\nDinner reservations are at: 5:00 p.m.\, 5:15\, 5:30\, 5:45\, & 6:00 p.m.  We will let you know if we will need to revise your reservation time due to diner volume.\n\nPlease use this form to sign up:\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nName:\n\n\n\nEmail Address:\n\n\n\nDinner and Lecture?

SUMMARY:Lecture series continues! Laura Tennant – The Making of the Misfits
DESCRIPTION:Just image!! It was August 1960 when Hollywood’s favorite stars\, Marilyn Monroe\, Clark Gable\, Montgomery Clift\, Eli Wallach and Thelma Ritter arrived in Dayton\, Nevada to film the “The Misfits” directed by Hollywood notables: director\, John Huston\, producer\, Frank Taylor and Arthur Miller\, Marilyn’s husband then\, who wrote the movie script specifically for her performance. \nSee photographs and learn why the movie was primarily filmed in Dayton\, about little known details of what really went on behind the scenes and stories of how the residents of the small historic town of Dayton reacted to having Hollywood’s’ most rich and famous shooting live movie scenes on their streets and at the 1860’s Odeon Saloon & Billiard Parlor on Pike Street\, a building that had not been open for business since 1941. \nPlease note that we have only 50 total seats for people to see the lecture. We will let you know if we will need to revise your reservation time to due to diner volume.\n\nPlease use this form to sign up:\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nName:\n\n\n\nEmail Address:\n\n\n\nDinner and Lecture?
