DESCRIPTION:  \nWe are pleased to continue our 2024 Lecture Series! \nThursday\, May 2nd lecture will be Stanley Paher’s lecture on: “Nevada  Ghost Towns & Mining Camps and other interesting Desert destinations – The Sequel” \nDinner starts at 4:30 p.m. and lecture starts at 7:00 p.m. \nLecture Description: \nStanley Paher is the author of  Nevada  Ghost Towns & Mining Camps\, which since its publication in 1970 has sold 68\,800 copies.  Recently Paher followed  up his award-winning book with a companion Desert Atlas which features  about 1\,800 destination points throughout Nevada and eastern California all located on 71 color  maps. \nPaher’s powerpoint  show will draw from  these books as well as from his collection of  unpublished photos.  His voice-over  presentation of about 40 minutes will  conclude with a question and answer session. \nThis will be an all new lecture with never presented material.  You will not want to miss it!  Copies of Stanley’s books will be available for purchase and signing. \nBio: \nNative Nevadan Stanley Paher is owner of Nevada Publications which  in 51 years has  published 114 books  by 53 different authors. Ever since his  years at Las Vegas High School\, he has  explored  desert areas throughout the Southwest through  hiking\, jeeping and camping. In 1982 he moved  permanently to Reno in an effort to  retire but admits he has not done a very good  job of it. DESCRIPTION:The Gold Hill Hotel is proud to begin the 2024 Historic Lecture and Entertainment Season!\n\nThursday\, March 21st 2024\, Featuring “Nellie Mighels Davis” a Chautauqua by Debilynn Smith!\n\nDinner starts at 4:30 p.m. and lecture starts at 7:00 p.m. \nDescription:  One thing you can say about Nellie Mighels Davis is she had fortitude! Born in Maine\, she travelled across oceans and dirt roads to come to Carson City\, NV to be with her Newspaper Editor husband. She took on the rigors of the travel and the wildness of the country and the ocean and became a prominent business woman\, community leader and beloved citizen of Carson City. Hers is a story of life in the Nevada Territory; full twists and turns\, and amusing anecdotes sure to entertain and intrigue you. \n\nBio:  DebiLynn Smith was born in Bishop California and raised in Bridgeport CA. She lived her entire young adult life on the Eastern Sierras including going the first two years of college in Susanville\, CA. She did her first Chautauqua at the age of 13 in 8th grade when she portrayed Laura Ingalls Wilder. When they handed her the costume she was supposed to wear\, she refused to wear it and made an entirely “period correct” one for the part. She has portrayed several ladies of prominence who were pioneers on the Eastern Slopes of the Sierras. She has even done a talk on the point of view of a 1849 Gold Prospector and of a Chinese Railroad Worker. She is a Living Historian\, portrays an Apothecarist\, and makes all of her own period correct attire.\n\nLecture starts at 7:00 p.m. and costs $10 per person. Come early and enjoy dinner before the lecture! DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the 2025 Ghost Tour series at the Gold Hill Hotel!  \nThe Gold Hill Hotel (as seen on Ghost Adventures and proclaimed the 8th most haunted location in Nevada) is now offering Historical Ghost Tours.  These tours benefit various local charities on the Comstock.  Hosted by the Northern Nevada Ghost Hunters (NNGH)\, your evening will start with a gourmet dinner in the Crown Point restaurant (one of the best restaurants on the Comstock). \nAfter dinner\, NNGH will guide you back in time with tales of the history and the hauntings of the hotel and the surrounding area\, known as Slippery Gulch. Using ghost hunting tools and techniques\, you can try to make contact with the spirits still in residence at the hotel. Please note that you will be touring some of the actual haunted rooms in the hotel as well! \nBefore the tour or during the intermission\, quench your thirst and calm your nerves with a drink in the 150 year old bar\, as frequented by Mark Twain back in the day!  This is sure to be an evening to remember.
