SUMMARY:Lecture Series:  Mike Collins – on the Crown Point Trestles
DESCRIPTION:Mike Collins continues the lecture series this Wednesday night (October 18th) at the Gold Hill Hotel.  Please note that the lecture is WEDNESDAY this week\, not THURSDAY! \nMike is the President of the V&T Railroad Historical Society.    \nThe Crown Point Trestle was a wood trestle built across the Crown Point Ravine (70′ x 40′)\, Crown Point Mine\, Union Street\, and American Flat lower Road. The timbers were cut from trees harvested in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. \nThe trestle was 351′ long and 85′ feet high\, and contained 184\,538 board feet of lumber\, and 19\,280 pounds of iron in bolts\, pins\, nuts\, and additional cables.  There was loss of life during its construction. \nThis exciting lecture will discuss all of these aspects of this historical structure as well as presenting historical pictures and drawings of the trestle.  This is one of the biggest technical artifacts of the Comstock era! \nThe Virginia & Truckee Railroad Historical Society is a non-profit established in 2009.  The mission of the V & T Railroad Historical Society is to encourage research and the publication of information concerning the railroad from its inception in 1868 to the last official run on May 31\, 1950. \nThis lecture will begin at 7 p.m. and costs $5.  If you would like\, we have a dinner consisting of spaghetti with meat sauce\, a green salad\, and garlic bread AND INCLUDES THE LECTURE\, all for only $11!  So come for dinner and the lecture and get it all for the low price of $11 total.  Please note that we have only 50 total seats for people to see the lecture so sign up early! \nIt will be an exciting evening!  See sign up form below: \n\n \n\n\n		\n		\n		\n	\n\n\n\n				Name:\n			\n\n				 \n\n\n\n\n				Email Address:\n			\n\n				 \n\n\n\n\n				Dinner and lecture or lecture only?\n			\n\n				 Lecture only $5\n				 Dinner at 6 p.m. and lecture for only $11 \n\n\n\n\n				How many in your party?
