2020 Lecture/ Entertainment Series Continues! – Thursday, September 17th, Joe Curtis with “Business on the Comstock”
Dinner starts at 5:00 p.m. and lecture starts at 7:00 p.m.
** We will be limiting the sign ups to no more than 30 people and we will use “social distancing” in the Great Room in order to be safe for this lecture. **
Lecture Description: No mining could exist without the local small businesses to support the mining operations. Groceries, lumber yards, hardware, undertakers, banks, doctors, clothiers, lantern makers, drayage, livery stables, liquor stores and saloons and several dozen other type businesses. Oh, yeah, and even Lawyers so everybody and mine owners could sue each other. We will look at what kinds of businesses, who operated them, where they were and how they made the Comstock functional. But, wait, there’s more….cool photos.
Bio – Joe Curtis: Joe’s family moved to VC in 1958. They bought a building and opened a museum dedicated to the history of life on the Comstock. He grew up amidst the museum and became infatuated with the history of the Comstock and began collecting old photos of the area back in the day.
Lecture starts at 7:00 p.m. and costs $10 per person.
