2021 Lecture/ Entertainment Series Continues! – Thursday, October 7th, Joe Curtis with “If Sutro Tunnel Is not a Tunnel then what is it?!”

– Part 1 October 7th

-Part 2 November 18th

Dinner starts at 4:30 p.m. and lecture starts at 7:00 p.m.

Lecture Description:   It’s a presentation, not a lecture.  As such, he may have some prizes available for those that participate!  This is the first part of the presentation about the research Joe has conducted about the Sutro Tunnel and his experience as a guide.  The second and final part of the presentation will be Thursday November 18th, here at the Gold Hill Hotel.

A Nevada wonder that everyone wonders about.  A photo review and  open discussion about the 5 W’s of an amazing project in support of  the Comstock workings.  A project that cost $14 per inch ($336.00 today) to dig the 3.88 miles from Dayton Valley to the Savage Mine in the 1870’s.

Bio – Joe Curtis:  Joe arrived from Carson City in 1958 with his parents who opened an historical museum in VC and thus Joe was steeped in the history of the Comstock.  He began collecting old photos and old original source history materials as a teenager.

Joe is a purist in the history of the Comstock.  Myths are fun and ok but need to be so identified.  He has worked with Discover, National Geographic, History Channel and Smithsonian on Comstock history as well as a number of private documentaries and authors.

He served several years in the Army, retiring from Carson City Sheriff’s Dept.  Joe operated the Mark Twain Bookstore for 22 years, has his own graphics and sign business and currently serve as the Director of Emergency Management for Storey County.

If it’s Comstock history, Joe is on it!

Lecture starts at 7:00 p.m. and costs $10 per person.
